Welcome to beautiful Montenegro

Montenegro is easily one of the world’s most beautiful countries and one of Europe’s best-kept secrets.Carrying the title of the smallest fully recognised Balkan countries and one of the smallest countries in Europe, Montenegro has become one of the favourite travel destinations in recent years, and all with a very good reason.Being the seventh country in the world with the largest number of UNESCO protected areas per square meter, Montenegro is a home to deepest canyon in Europe and the second in the world just after the Grand Canyon – Tara River Canyon, the longest sand beach of the Old Continent – Ulcinj, southernmost fjord in Europe and one of the most beautiful bays in the world – the Bay of Kotor. That is to say, with its exceptional landscapes, imposing mountains, enchanting Adriatic sea, idyllic villages, top notch gastronomy, and incredibly rich history and culture, Montenegro is boasting magical contrasts that manage to satisfy even the most demanding world travellers and explorers…

Kotor has dropped an anchor between the gray mountains and the sea, and veiled its life behind the high and wide ramparts. Its bulwarks seem to have been eternally growing rock tendrils along the hill, up to the old fortress that overlooks the town.It is a dramatic town where the present lives in the maze of medieval churches, cathedrals, Venetian palaces and pillars. Kotor is made up of contrasts – the old squares with modern cafes, the sounds of serenade and live music, the echo of the footsteps down the narrow cobblestone alleys and the lazy purr of cats lying under the balconies with wrought iron railings, decorated with petunias. The old town – that is the most famous part of Kotor, where the Kotor history, culture, and tradition are being preserved. The old town of Kotor has a great number of monuments of the medieval architecture: churches, cathedrals, palaces, and museums. Its beauty is complemented with the multitude of narrow streets, squares, and markets. The old town of Kotor stands out also by the great number of stylishly made gates, palaces of the wealthy families, and a great number of stairs…

The Old City of Kotor is a well preserved urbanization typical of the middle Ages, built between the 12th and 14th century. Medieval architecture and numerous monuments of cultural heritage have made Kotor a UNESCO listed “World Natural and Historical Heritage Site”.Kotor is unique for several reasons. It is located on the only natural fjord of its kind in the world and in a bay that has made the list of Most Beautiful Bays in the World.Perast is one of the most beautiful little places in Boka Bay, few kilometers from Kotor. Perast is a wonderful old town, with wonderful old architecture. You will enjoy in many old churchs, but one of the biggest attraction is for sure : Our Lady of the Rock (Gospa od Skrpjela), little island in Boka Bay, with amazing church and museum. The small town is a sun trap and full of former palaces and stone churches. It has UNESCO Heritage protection and has mostly been carefully restored to its former glory…

The island of Sveti Stefan, not far from the city of Budva, is today a world tourist attraction.Sveti Stefan is a summer resort for elite tourists and for the tourists who crave for glamour. When at the end of the 1940’s a decision was brought which said that this place should be turned into a tourist facility, a creation of new history began for Sveti Stefan. Its glory from then until now to world is presented by actors like Sofia Loren and Carlo Bruni, as well as the presidents of the majority of countries of the world, singer, scientists and many others. English princess Margaret stayed as well as Italian King Umberto II of Savoy, famous world actors like: Kirk Douglas, Doris Day, Geraldine Chaplin, Sidney Poatie, Richard Vidmark, Sylvester Stallone, Jeremy Irons… Famous literates Andre Marlow and Alberto Moravia, also stayed in Sveti Stefan, also Soviet astronaut Yuri Gagarin, famous chess master Robert Fisher, as well as the most beautiful women in the world Claudia Shifer. The majority of the mentioned “crowned heads” stayed in the villa 118, which is a part of the hotel complex “Sveti Stefan”. For that exclusive villa, the price of staying is negotiated with the leaser. The starting price is 1.500 euros a day.In 1972. year Sveti Stefan got a reward “Golden apple”, as the most exclusive summer resort in the world. In its immediate vicinity a former king’s summer residence is situated, which is today hotel Milocer…

Budva is the most popular spot among the tourists. It also has an Old Town, sandy beaches and a fun nightlife.Budva is 2,500 years old, which makes it one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast.Once a small and quiet coastal town, today, Budva is a metropolis of Montenegrin tourism and one of the loudest and most packed towns at the Montenegrin coast during the summer. Its life began on the headland two and a half millennia ago and has poured out of the ramparts towards luxurious yachts, new buildings, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs where amazing fun awaits. Budva has its own Hawaii – an island opposite the city with beautiful beaches, ice cold refreshments and seafood specialties. In the evening, on the promenade along the beach you will be overwhelmed by the loud music that comes from the cafes, the laughter and screams of children from nearby amusement parks, the scent of the sea mixed with the aroma of delicious barbeque, and beams of light from the disco that stroll through the sky. The old town is Budva’s trademark. It is raised on the island, which used to be connected with the land by a sandy covering and so it grew into a peninsula…

Lake Skadar and the encompassing national park offer everything from towering mountains and quaint fishing villages, to tiny islands and old fortresses. The most beautiful site seeing locations at Lake Skadar are actually smaller villages at the north of the lake. I recommend Rijeka Crnojevica as a base point. Here you can visit old stone bridge over the ice cold river that flows into the Lake Skadar. Here you can find accommodation, have a boat ride, rent a kayak, and eat in good restaurants with local food and wine. I totally recommend kayak rental for at least a little bit in order to paddle into the endless fields of water lily all over the river. Also I recommend a visit to villages Karuc and Dodosi. Fabulous place for lovers of nature wonders.Rafting through the Tara River is incredible experience for adventurers and nature lovers. The Tara canyon, protected as UNESCO World Heritage Site is the deepest and longest in Europe with up to 1.3km depth and 78km length. There are rocky and pebbly terraces, sandy beaches, high cliffs, and more than 80 large caves along the canyon. The Tara River is the biggest European supply of drinking water. As you go rafting down its rapids you can drink…

Montenegro’s north beckons with countless highland adventures. Its great outdoors – encompassing Durmitor, Biogradska Gora and Prokletije national parks – are a dream destination for everything from hiking and mountain biking to canyoning and rafting. The impossibly rugged and dramatic Durmitor (Дурмитор) is one of Montenegro’s – and Mother Nature’s – showpieces. Carved out by glaciers and underground streams, Durmitor stuns with dizzying canyons, glittering glacial lakes and nearly 50 limestone peaks soaring to over 2000m; the highest, Bobotov Kuk, hits 2523m. From December to March, Durmitor is a major ski resort, while in summer it’s popular for hiking, rafting and other active pursuits.Ostrog Monastery, a miracle built by nature and human interaction, carved almost in its entirety in a vertically positioned mountain cliff, is today the pearl of Montenegrin spirituality which is visited by more than a hundred thousand pilgrims from around the world and of travellers of all religions every year.It is one of three most visited Christian destinations on the planet with its cave-like chapel and the Monastery complex that preserves the sanctity of Saint Basil the , Orthodox Christian Saint of Miracles. All of Montenegrin spirituality beliefs and cultural treasures found their home high up in the Ostrog cliffs. This breathtaking destination will fill your soul with high elevated feelings of devotion and reverence to God.
